Until yesterday, the Democratic Party platform included this statement:

"Democrats support eliminating tax breaks and subsidies for fossil fuels, and will fight to defend and extend tax incentives for energy efficiency and clean energy."

Unfortunately, the language was struck from the platform in a last minute deal.

This is a shocking reversal -- one that's out of step with the vast majority of Democrats. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and most other 2020 presidential candidates supported ending fossil fuel subsidies on the campaign trail. It's a core component of the Biden-Harris climate plan. Democratic voters widely support it, as do the vast majority of Americans who do not want to use public funds to bankroll fossil fuel corporations during a recession.

The party's 2020 platform is otherwise unprecedentedly progressive on climate. This is the first time any major party platform has ever included 100% clean energy standards, and it also makes historic commitments to environmental justice.

But we cannot end the climate crisis without ending fossil fuel bailouts.

Sign our petition to call on the DNC to recommit to ending fossil fuel subsidies in its 2020 platform.
