Friends,

My name is Marlene Mendoza. I work at LAX for HMS Host and I am also one of the vice presidents of UNITE HERE! Local 11.

As a worker leader at LAX I've fought for years to maintain affordable healthcare. When I started that fight, it was very personal. I was single mother with two kids, one of whom had a life threatening condition. My son is alive because of the insurance I got at my job.

That's why it is important to me to stand with workers in their fight for healthcare.

LAX concessions workers have served the traveling public at this airport for decades. Over 90% of us are people of color, roughly one-fifth of us are Black, and we tend to live in communities that are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19.

We can't afford to lose our family insurance while on layoff only to return to the high-risk airport environment without easy and affordable access to medical care.

If Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is going to give our employers rent relief worth millions of dollars to help them through this economic crisis, it needs to make extended health insurance for us a condition of that relief.

Please sign the petition to demand LAX provide ongoing health care coverage for our families during this pandemic.
In Solidarity,

Marlene Mendoza
