Proposed Bylaw Changes
Over the past few months, many members have raised concerns about our bylaws being outdated and inflexible. Resolution 20-12, to be heard at this Saturday's meeting, is the result of the Executive Committee trying to synthesize ideas from a number of members, including feedback from two Member Forums.
These changes are largely based on the work of a Bylaws Review committee that was created in Fall 2019. There was an effort to update the bylaws in the February meeting, but the proposal was tabled, and then the Coronavirus pandemic started. The new proposal is different and has new changes, including expanding leadership from 7 to 9 officers, replacing the Chair with two indirectly elected Co-Chairs, clarifying that membership meetings hold political authority over the officers, and more. This proposal also reduces the length of the bylaws by about half and simplifies the language significantly.
There will be a third and final Restructuring Forum for members to discuss these proposed bylaw changes, ask questions, and give feedback on the proposal. The forum will be held this Thursday, August 20th at 8pm. RSVP here.
