We got some good news yesterday, John.

As a result of enormous pressure from our movement and allies, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced that he will suspend cuts and delays of service to the postal service until after the election. 

This is a testament to our collective power and a big victory, but this fight isn’t over. It’s unclear whether DeJoy will reverse the damages already done to the USPS – including the removal of hundreds of mail-sorting machines. Words are not enough, we need action.

That’s why we’re joining our partners for a national day of action this Saturday at post offices across the country to call on Congress to save the post office and call on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to resign.

As Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in a press conference yesterday: 

“Postmaster DeJoy can say whatever he wants about what changes will or will not happen in the future. He has lost the trust of the American people, he has lost our trust to make sure that he will follow through. We need to get him under oath, on a committee, letting us know what is happening, and we have to undo the damage that he has already done.”

The House is still scheduled to vote this Saturday on legislation that would revoke policy changes to the USPS until Jan. 1, 2021, or the end of the pandemic. The bill would also include $25 billion in funding the USPS desperately needs to handle the influx of ballots this November. 

We need to be in the streets on the same day of this vote to show Congress that our movement will not sacrifice the USPS or our democracy. Find an action to join on Saturday now.
