Hi Friend,

Did you have a chance to see Queen’s exciting update on drug decriminalization from over the weekend?

All drug decriminalization is gaining unprecedented momentum. Oregonians will get the chance to approve a groundbreaking ballot initiative to decriminalize drugs and expand access to treatment and health services this November.

And now, DPA has released a first of its kind framework for federal all drug decriminalization, the Drug Policy Reform Act

The Drug Policy Reform Act would end criminal penalties for personal drug possession, dismantle the Drug Enforcement Administration, and move federal resources away from futile law enforcement strategies.

Friend, if you haven’t yet, please sign our petition to help us move drug decriminalization forward.

And if you can, please make a donation to help end the criminalization of drugs and the people who use them. We need your support to keep this unprecedented momentum growing.

Subject: Decriminalize Drugs & Dismantle the Drug War

Drug Policy Alliance
Friend,

With your help, we’ve long advocated for all drug decriminalization as a crucial step toward ending the disastrous drug war. Now we have a first-of-its-kind plan for how to make it happen nationwide.

Dismantling the Federal Drug War: A Comprehensive Drug Decriminalization Framework is our new proposal outlining how to end the criminalization of people who use drugs and begin repairing the harms of drug enforcement. Here are some of the ways we can do it:
  • End criminal penalties for personal drug possession so that nobody gets arrested, goes to jail or prison, or faces criminal punishment for possessing a small amount of a drug for personal use.
  • Dismantle the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and shift authority for classifying and regulating controlled substances to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Move federal resources away from futile law enforcement strategies to supportive initiatives to protect the public health and safety.
Prohibition and the drug war have failed. Sign our petition if you agree it’s time to decriminalize drugs and dismantle the federal drug war.

For the first time ever, we’re finally seeing real momentum to decriminalize drugs at both the state and federal level.

Our proposal has already attracted attention in Congress and legislation including our framework will be introduced as soon as this year.

In November, Oregonians could approve the first-in-the-nation ballot initiative to decriminalize drugs and expand access to treatment and health services.

And communities across the country are calling for alternatives to law enforcement and incarceration to address police violence, racism, and mass criminalization.

For 50 years the drug war has perpetuated harms, particularly on communities of color. But now, thanks to you, there is unprecedented momentum to shift away from punishment and instead adopt a health-based approach to drugs.

You’ve helped us get this far. Add your name to help us take the next step to end the criminalization of people who use drugs.

  Sincerely,

Queen Adesuyi
