The Washington Post: "Postal Service warns 46 states their voters could be disenfranchised by delayed mail-in ballots"

This could be disastrous for our democracy: The Postal Service sent out letters to 46 states -- including New Jersey -- warning that ballots cast by mail in the 2020 election might not arrive in time.

Tens of millions of Americans all over the country are eligible to vote by mail this November, but in the wake of new USPS policies and mail delays, those people could be disenfranchised.

EMERGENCY PETITION:
Add your name and demand Majority Leader Mitch McConnell take action to secure urgent funding for the USPS →

Last week, the president said he will not sign off on emergency funding for the Postal Service so the agency won't be able to execute a massive upswing in voting by mail this November.

The new postmaster general has also slashed the budget, which is delaying mail as long as a week in some cases. And recently, 10% of mail-sorting machines were decommissioned, which could slow things down even more.

These attacks on postal workers' ability to do their job is also an attack on free and fair elections. It's unpatriotic. Plain and simple.

This isn't just about ballots. It's about prescriptions, tax refunds, paychecks, and so many other essentials the USPS delivers.

The VA processes nearly half a million prescriptions every day, and more than 330,000 veterans receive prescriptions in the mail every day of the week. Now, veterans are reporting that delivery wait time has double, tripled, or even worse.

This is about our democracy. It's also about veterans, seniors, workers, and families that are depending on the USPS to be able to do its job.

I'm fighting to secure the critical emergency funding the USPS needs to ensure a safe and fair election and to ensure the health and well-being of Americans across the country.

Now, McConnell needs to do his job. Add your name today and demand McConnell take action on emergency funding for the Postal Service.

Thank you for all you do,

Mikie
