On May 23, 2025, President Donald Trump signed four important and ambitious executive orders to promote nuclear energy. The executive orders aimed to accelerate licensing, quadruple electricity generation from nuclear power by 2050, boost exports, increase domestic fuel production, and explore recycling used nuclear fuel, among other objectives.
One year later, we at The National Interest saw this as an important moment to assess what has been accomplished and what remains to be done to advance America’s nuclear energy sector—a key pillar of US energy security and economic growth, exports and technology leadership, and geopolitical engagement and influence. With that in mind, we published in Energy World ([link removed]) a series of articles from varied perspectives, including from former officials, policy experts, and the companies working to make it all happen.
