Autism Spin Versus Autism Trends—Rising Prevalence in Black and Hispanic Children

By the Children’s Health Defense Team

Despite the 2018 report of the 15% increase in ASD prevalence, the CDC cast a positive spin on its findings by hypothesizing that white ASD prevalence had largely stabilized and praised the increased prevalence as a reflection of “the catch-up of Hispanics and blacks who had been historically underascertained."

Dissatisfied with the “better diagnosis” explanation, researchers Cynthia Nevison and Walter Zahorodny have published a new study critiquing the “catch-up” hypothesis —as well as pointing to worsening racial/ethnic disparities.

An Open Letter to Nick Paumgarten, Author of “The Message of Measles"

Editorial by Alison Fujito, CHD Contributing Writer

In an open letter to Mr. Paumgarten, Alison Fujito states: "...it’s long past time to address the misinformation in articles like yours, which paints such an intensely biased, extremist picture of those who delay or even refuse vaccines, that by my definition, it does not qualify as journalism."

"In the first place, please stop calling us 'anti-vaxxers.'  WE VACCINATED OUR CHILDREN. Our sons and daughters had medically, documented, serious  adverse reactions to vaccines. Not redness, swelling, or a little fever, but autoimmune reactions, neurological reactions like seizure, encephalopathy, or loss of consciousness, and a host of others with long-term sequelae. Yet our children’s injuries are dismissed and ignored, while we are inexplicably —and unethically— told we must continue to vaccinate to protect others.  Why wouldn’t we protest?"

CA SB276 Update—Voted Out of Committee

As with all CA bills costing over $150,000, CA 276 has been in the CA Appropriations Committee for many weeks. If not voted out of committee it would, like other bills there, die in committee. It is with heavy hearts that we report that SB276 was passed out of the Appropriations Committee today by a vote of 13 to 5. But all isn’t lost! The next steps for the bill are the Assembly and Senate Floor votes where it is expected to pass, then on to the Governor’s desk for signature into law. It is the latter where CA citizens can still make a difference. The last hope is a veto from Gov. Newsom. CA advocates ask that you call Gov. Newsom’s office, 916-445-2841, to voice your opposition to SB 276. You can also go to https://www.gov.ca.gov to leave a comment for Gov. Newsom.

More Evidence that Fluoride Lowers IQ: Will the CDC Keep Ignoring It?

By the Children’s Health Defense Team

At present, more Americans drink fluoridated water than in all other countries combined. The CDC acknowledges no dangers of water fluoridation other than mentioning the risk of dental fluorosis, the most visible sign of fluoride toxicity.

There are dozens of studies outside the U.S., linking fluoride exposure to reduced IQ, but American media outlets have remained mostly silent. The latest study on fluoride’s IQ effects (published August 19) has received more attention, perhaps because it appeared in one of the nation’s top pediatric journals, JAMA Pediatrics

Funded, in part by the U.S. government, the Canada-based study indicates once again, that moms’ exposure to fluoride during pregnancy can result in lower IQ scores in their children.
