I'm not asking for anything except this

Friend,
This weekend, families across southern Minnesota will visit cemeteries, place
flags at headstones, and stand together in the kind of silence that says more
than words ever could.
Memorial Day isn't about cookouts or a long weekend, though I hope you get to
enjoy time with the people you love. It's about the men and women who left
their hometowns, put on the uniform, and never came home. They gave their lives
so that we could keep ours free and full of the blessings they sacrificed
everything to protect.
In our corner of Minnesota, that legacy runs deep. From the rolling farmland
to our small-town main streets, this district has sent generations of sons and
daughters to serve. Some of them rest in the cemeteries we'll walk through this
weekend. We owe them a debt we can never repay.
So this Memorial Day, I'm not going to ask you for anything except this:
At 3:00 PM Monday, pause for the National Moment of Remembrance. Wherever you
are, at the grill, on the lake, or on the porch, stop for one minute of silence
for those who gave their lives. It's a small thing. But it's the right thing.
And if you'd be willing, I'd be honored if you would share the name of
someone you're remembering this Memorial Day. A father, a grandfather, a
brother, a friend, a neighbor. Tell me who they were. I read these myself, and
there is no greater privilege in this job than helping make sure their names
are never forgotten.
May God bless the fallen, comfort the families who carry their absence, and
watch over the country they died to defend.
With a grateful heart,
