Friend,
I wanted to make sure you saw our Executive Director's message from the weekend about the impact of our work during the pandemic.
Rent will be due again soon as millions are without work, and schools will be re-opening while facing huge budget cuts. We have a long way to go, but we will be taking one night next week to pause and acknowledge what we have accomplished so far.
Click here to join our very first virtual gala next Wednesday, the 26th!
We will be joined by the leaders of some of our closest allied organizations to virtually celebrate with our members and friends.
You won't want to miss it. Reserve your seat today!
Hope to see you there,
Jamie Tyberg
Friend,
When we launched our relief fund in April, nearly all who requested support from our relief fund had been laid off, with 86% ineligible for unemployment, 69% with children to provide for, and 11% with a family member who was hospitalized or died from the virus.
Our campaigns to Cancel Rent and Fund Excluded Workers and Make Billionaires Pay were all born out of this reality. Since then we have raised and distributed over $100,000 in relief funding to those in need in the neighborhoods in which we organize; and helped turn our campaign slogans into bills that can set the blueprint for the new New York that works for everybody.
To all those who continue to make phone calls for our campaigns, canvass, sign petitions, talk to their neighbors, we thank you for fighting alongside us. We hope that on August 26th, you will join our very first virtual gala featuring a roundtable discussion with some of the most visionary organizers with whom I've had the privilege of building this movement.
RSVP here and please donate whatever you are able to in order to help us win our campaigns to Cancel Rent, Fund Excluded Workers, and Make Billionaires Pay.
In solidarity,
Jonathan Westin
