“For too long, many in the lobbying industry have circumvented the rules and avoided registration — all while maintaining an outsized influence in our political system. It’s time for this to change. Now a new bipartisan bill has been introduced that would update outdated lobbying rules and policies, and ensure that special interests aren’t drowning out the voices of the American people. We strongly urge Congress to act now and support the passage of the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 2020.”

John,
Special interests have an outsized influence on our political system, and it’s past time to change that. That’s why we’re excited that, after years of advocating for lobbying reform on Capitol Hill by Issue One and our ReFormers Caucus Lobbying Disclosure Act Task Force, last week, Reps. Ben Cline (R-VA) and Dean Phillips (D-MN) introduced a new bipartisan bill — The Lobbying Disclosure Reform Act of 2020 (LDA) to bring much-needed transparency into our political system. This is a huge move, as the original LDA hasn’t been updated in over a decade!
This is critical because, since 2007, there has been a marked overall decline in registered lobbyists while the amount of spending on lobbying has skyrocketed. And, many in the industry simply circumvent the rules and avoid registration, leaving much of their work under-reported or unreported.
Add your name and become a citizen cosigner of the LDA to show your support for this bipartisan effort to increase lobbying transparency!
As Rep. Cline said: “Americans are dissatisfied with the way things get done in Washington, and updating the LDA with these commonsense provisions is a strong step to modernizing our lobbying laws and placing more power in the hands of the people rather than the lobbyists.”
“I am on a mission to restore Americans’ faith in our government, which begins with reducing the corrupting influence of special interest money in our political system,” added Rep. Phillips.
Sign the petition now to urge Congress to support this commonsense bill and make lobbying reform a reality.
We appreciate your support,
Meredith McGehee Executive Director, Issue One
