John,
This spring, [ [link removed] ]Mt. Joy was looking for a voter registration partner to
join their Texas tour dates. We jumped on the opportunity, and our teams
in Dallas and Austin got to work.
On April 25th, our DFW team — led by Jay, Darrel, and Diandra — set up
under our assigned canopy at the Longhorn Backyard Amphitheater next to
the merch table.
We canvassed the crowd all evening, checking voter registration statuses,
updating records for folks who'd moved, and talking about what's at stake
this November.
By the end of the night, we'd helped check over 200 voter statuses — and
found a few people who thought they were registered but weren't on the
rolls. Good thing they checked.
The band even donated a signed vinyl for us to raffle off to folks who
stopped by to check their registration status.
The very next night, April 26th, our Austin team — led by Wes — brought
that same energy to the Moody Center.
We were joined by local volunteers and one of our Texas State interns,
Gallant, who drove in from San Marcos just to help out. We worked the main
lobby, concession lines, and venue entrances — meeting people wherever
they were.
In just one hour, we added 81 new contacts to our contact list and
recruited 2 new volunteers.
This is what organizing looks like. Showing up where people already are,
in moments they're already enjoying.
We're planning to bring this model to more concerts this summer across
Texas. More venues. More crowds. We’ll register people to vote, check
their status, and then stay personally connected with them through
Election Day and beyond to make sure they cast a ballot.
[ [link removed] ]But organizing at huge events like these take resources — for staff
time, materials, and the volunteer coordination that makes it all run
smoothly. If you believe in this kind of grassroots,
meet-people-where-they-are organizing, please consider chipping in
$3 today.
