John,

Yet another tragedy has happened: On May
11th, a gunman carrying an assault-style rifle stood near the River Street
Bridge along Memorial Drive, acting erratically, and suddenly opened fire
into passing traffic.

He fired around 60 rounds. He struck at least a dozen vehicles. Terrified
drivers were forced to abandon their cars and run for their lives. Two
people are now fighting life-threatening injuries in the hospital.

Massachusetts is consistently ranked as having some of the strongest gun
laws in the country. To carry a firearm there, you are supposed to pass
rigorous background checks, complete mandatory safety training, and be
deemed suitable by local authorities.

But as this nightmare in Cambridge unfolds, we are forced to confront a
devastating, undeniable reality:

Strict state regulations alone cannot completely stop this epidemic when
our national system is fundamentally broken.

When an individual with a history of drug abuse can still find a way to
terrorize a community with an assault-style weapon, our laws are failing
us.

The burden of gun violence is being forced onto everyday people just
trying to drive through their neighborhoods.

[ [link removed] ]John, we
need your help to fight for universal, nationwide systemic solutions. Will
you chip in $10 or whatever you can afford today to help March for Our
Lives demand comprehensive federal gun safety, universal background
checks, and a ban on assault weapons?

No one should have to face down a gunman firing 60 rounds into traffic. No
student or resident should have to wonder if their neighborhood will
become the next crime scene.

The gun lobby wants us to believe that gun violence is inevitable — that
even with strict laws, tragedies just happen. But we already know the
truth: tragedies happen because politicians refuse to pass federal laws
that keep dangerous weapons out of reach nationwide, putting gun lobby
profits over the lives of our people.

[ [link removed] ]We refuse to accept this as normal. We refuse to wait for the next
tragedy to strike another community. Please, help us fund our grassroots
organizing, youth advocacy, and legislative lobbying. Donate today to
power our movement toward a future where we are all safe.
