The politicians behind the move to gut the U.S. Forest Service and move its headquarters to Utah are trumpeting a very convenient script: they claim this is about "decentralization" and "efficiency." It’s a nice story. It’s also a total lie.

In 2020, they pulled this exact stunt with the Bureau of Land Management. By scattering the headquarters, they forced nearly 90% of the agency’s experts to resign rather than uproot their lives. It didn't make the BLM more efficient—it made it toothless. That was the point.

Now, they are running the same scam on the Forest Service, but the stakes here are even higher.

* Brain Drain: Thousands of seasoned rangers and scientists are being handed "move or quit" orders right as we head into what experts predict will be a catastrophic wildfire season.
* Institutional Sabotage: By severing the USFS from the seat of power in D.C., they are effectively blindfolding the agency when it comes to securing budgets and managing 193 million acres of our land.
* The End Game: They aren't moving the agency to Utah by accident. They are moving it to the home turf of Senator Mike Lee—the man who has made a career out of trying to auction off your public lands to the highest bidder
