Team,
Sen. Cornyn tried to reassure Texans that it’s safe to send our kids back to school in the fall -- he even put out an ad about his efforts, but he’s ignored some of the basic, publicly available facts about COVID-19. I for one don’t trust him to do what’s right for my kids. We need to send him packing in November and make sure that we have a senator who cares about our kids.
Here’s what he said:
-
“We don’t know if children can get [the virus] and transmit it to others.”
-
“No one under the age of 20 has died of coronavirus.”
Here are the facts:
-
Children CAN get COVID-19. In the last two weeks of July ALONE at least 97,000 children tested positive. And that's not including their teachers, bus drivers, other school employees, and their families.
-
Dozens of children under the age of 15 have died from COVID-19.
Maybe Sen. Cornyn would know these things if he listened to doctors and public health experts. But instead he listens to his DC boss, Mitch McConnell, who said that parents fear having their kids stuck at home in the fall more than they fear their kids catching COVID-19 and dying.
I’m a mom with two young kids -- their safety ALWAYS comes first, and unlike Sen. Cornyn or Mitch McConnell, you can rest assured that I’ll do the research to make sure all our kids are safe.
Will you pitch in to help me defeat Sen. Cornyn this November?
