What Victory Fund did for me

Hey John,

I’ll never forget the interview I gave as we waited for the results in my race to represent New York’s 15th Congressional District. It was late at night and I was running on several days of little to no sleep. But as I spoke, it started to sink in: I had beaten one of New York’s biggest bigots and was on-track to make history as the first openly LGBTQ Afro-Latinx member of Congress.

My success is due to my amazing campaign staff – and the support of the team at Victory Fund. Before I get into how they helped me win, I need to ask: will you chip in and support Victory Fund’s efforts to elect more LGBTQ candidates like me? With the support of donors like you, we will keep winning!

During the campaign, we had a tough fight on our hands. We had to defeat Rubén Díaz Sr., a virulent homophobe with a 20+ year history of making bigoted remarks about LGBTQ people. He led rallies against marriage equality and commented that he would refuse to report sexual harassment if he saw it.

Victory Fund used its platform to call out Rubén’s terrible behavior and organized other grassroots groups to do the same. They helped feature my story in media and in messages to supporters like you. And they helped do the one thing an LGBTQ candidate like me needs most – raise a lot of money to win!

But Rubén Díaz Sr. isn’t the only bigot out there. Victory Fund and the rest of their candidates need your help. If they’re going to support all their endorsed candidates – over 280 so far! – fight against bigotry and inequality, they need a huge influx of donations today. Chip in to keep making history and beating bigots like Rubén!

Thanks again for standing up for equality,

Ritchie Torres

LGBTQ Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win elections up and down the ballot, from sea to shining sea since our founding in 1991. We believe representation is power so we elected U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, Governors Jared Polis and Kate Brown, all seven LGBTQ members of U.S. Congress and countless candidates for state and local government, including Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod and Pennsylvania Assemblymember Brian Sims. And with an unprecedented number of LGBTQ people running for office in this year, we’ll need your support to make 2020 the next Rainbow Wave.
