Tyrants throughout history have known that one of the easiest ways to conquer a people is to force isolation among those who are targeted. Fear, arbitrary rules, and today's cancel culture pit individuals and groups against each other. Forced isolation from family and community support lessens one's ability to fight back, thus making it easier for the dictators to impose their will.
