Hi there -- We wanted to share some clips from USA Today’s feature, “She made history with AOC but Congress’ second-youngest woman, Abby Finkenauer, is her own Democrat.”

As USA Today noted, Abby’s fight has always been for the district she grew up in, the community that raised her, and families just like hers.

Abby’s friends and neighbors work hard every single day -- and she knew they deserved a voice in D.C. who worked just as hard for them. Now, it’s been eight months since the 116th Congress was sworn in, but on day one, Abby was already working on legislation that helps small businesses get access to government technology grants and contracts.

Check out this clip from USA Today:

[Graphic of torn paper clipping from USA Today reading, “But she was the first freshman lawmaker to have a bill passed in the House — a piece of legislation she worked on with a Republican that she introduced just one day after being sworn in. “My day is very different than what’s on CNN or FOX every night. It just is,” Finkenauer, 30, said in an interview with USA TODAY, adding sometimes “you feel like you’re in a different world.”]

In Congress, Abby is focused on getting things done for Iowans. That means she’s willing to work with anyone willing to help pass meaningful policy that will create a brighter future for Iowa and our country.

In Washington, we hear a lot of fighting over labels within the Democratic Party. Who’s the most liberal and progressive? Or, who are the moderates in the bunch? During Abby’s campaign, however, she often referred to herself as her grandfather’s Democrat: a proud Iowa Democrat.

Here’s another clip from the article:

[Graphic of torn paper clipping from USA Today reading, “She doesn’t consider herself a liberal or moderate and she isn’t a member of any ideological caucus in Congress. She’s also not been afraid to buck the party line. “I’m an Iowa Democrat before any of that,” she said, sipping from a purple coffee mug with “#PowerWoman” etched on the side. “It’s just not something where I feel like I fit into a mold.”]

Growing up in a small blue-collar community taught Abby the values of hard work and taking care of your neighbors. She’s taken those lessons and earned herself a reputation of being a staunch defender of working families. In Congress, she serves as the Chair of the Small Business subcommittee on rural development, agriculture, trade, and entrepreneurship.

She shared a story during her interview about a hearing in April. You can read the clip below:

[Graphic of torn paper clipping from USA Today reading, “Finkenauer walked out of another committee hearing in April after listening to farmers for hours talk about how the Midwest is changing and what that could mean for the future of agriculture. Afterward, she walked through the halls of the Capitol thinking “all of Washington must be talking about this.” “We’re talking about the future of Iowa — the future of the entire Midwest,” she thought. Then Finkenauer spotted a TV with the news on. She sighed. “All I see is Jared Kushner and security clearances,” Finkenauer recalled to USA TODAY, referring to the president’s son-in-law.”]

Over the past several months, Abby hasn’t landed numerous late night or day time talk shows, and she hasn’t been all over the national media outlets. Instead, she is focused on doing the job YOU sent her to Washington to do.

There’s so much work ahead of us to ensure every American has access to quality and affordable healthcare and good paying jobs that can support a family -- and Abby will continue to lead these fights with or without the spotlight on her.

Now, Abby’s facing an extremely tough race for re-election. We’re defending one of the most competitive seats in the entire country. We know national Republicans will invest heavily in winning Iowa in 2020, so we need your help to ensure Abby can continue this incredible work.

We’re up against our August fundraising deadline, but we’re still $950 short of today’s goal. Can we count on you to pitch in $25, $50, $100, or whatever you can right now to close the gap?
