New proposed Title IX regulations from the U.S. Department of Education were recently leaked -- and after reviewing them, I want to hear your thoughts.
The drafts show that Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and her department believe that schools should have the power to reject gender equity laws if they have any faith-based objections and not inform the government as to why.
That means schools could expel a student for using birth control methods or for coming out and living openly. This is appalling.
That’s why I am fighting back -- we cannot allow schools that receive federal funds to discriminate against students protected under Title IX. We must hold them accountable and ensure all students know whether or not a school supports inclusivity.
