** The 2020 Democratic National Convention
------------------------------------------------------------
Kicking off the DNC!

The first day of the Democractic National Convention was full of amazing and inspiring leaders. Under the theme, We the People, the DNC united people from all across the country to build support and momentum to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House.

The AAPI Caucus also had its first meeting during the Convention bringing AAPI leaders together to discuss the racist attacks on our community from the Trump Administration, COVID’s impact on our community , and the importance of mobilizing AAPIs, young and elderly, to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The meeting was hosted by AAPI Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong with guest speakers including DNC Chair Tom Perez, Representatives Grace Meng, Judy Chu, Ted Lieu, Mark Takano, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Stephanie Murphy, and prominent AAPI artists Tamlyn Tomita, Lauren Tom, David Henry Hwang, BD Wong, and Daniel Dae Kim. The Floyd family then led America in a moment of silence honoring Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Stephon Clark, Atatiana Jefferson, Sandra Bland, and so many others who should still be alive today.

Kristin Urquiza from Phoenix, Arizona shared her painful story ([link removed]) of how a lack of leadership at the top cost her father’s life.

Megan Rapinoe, star of the U.S. Women’s soccer team, led a conversation with a doctor, paramedic, and nurses on the front lines of the pandemic about how their colleagues are risking their lives every day in harrowing conditions, making unimaginable sacrifices, and lacking the most basic equipment to do their jobs: saving the American people.

Senator Bernie Sanders spoke on what’s at stake in this election, the urgency surrounding preserving our democracy, the pandemic we are living in and the economic crisis that has followed.
Last, but not least the former first lady Michelle Obama gave a passionate moving speech urging people to get out there and vote, what’s on the ballot this election, and why Joe Biden is the best person to take the presidency on.
