Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

On *Sunday*,Ohio Governor Mike DeWine participated in a call-to-duty ceremony recognizing nearly 600 Ohio National Guard soldiers who are deploying to the Middle East.Troops with the 1st Battalion, 145th Armored Regiment are deploying in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

On *Tuesday*, Governor DeWine accepted the American Legion Distinguished Service Medal, posthumously awarded to Senator John McCain, on behalf of the McCain family at the American Legion National Convention.

On *Wednesday*,Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced plans to enhance the state and federal background check systems to better protect law enforcement and the public, increase arrests of wanted offenders, and help prevent the sale of guns to those who are prohibited from purchasing a firearm.
Governor DeWine announced that Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who is the director of InnovateOhio, began the process of developing a free, statewide program to assist with the additional workload that would result from the mandated entry of this important criminal history information.

On *Thursday,*Governor DeWine delivered the keynote addressat the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber's Salute to Business and participated at the opening ceremony of the Canfield Fair.

Also on *Thursday*, Governor DeWine stopped by the Vindicator to meet with staff for the last time before the paper ends circulation. The Vindicator reported the news to the Youngstown area for the past 150 years.

Later on *Thursday*, Governor DeWine, Attorney General Dave Yost, and Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation Administrator/CEO Stephanie McCloud announced the expansion of a body armor grant program that helps protect the lives of Ohios law enforcement officers.
On *Friday*,Governor DeWine called on the State Medical Board of Ohio to conduct a thorough review of all sexual assault allegations against physicians and other licensed medical personnel that were investigated and closed without action over the past 25 years.
