With the election just 77 days away, I wanted to hit pause and touch base with a campaign update.

In case you missed it, we were added to a list of “Races to Watch” by the respected elections forecasters at Inside Elections earlier this month. They see us as poised to pull off a “Democratic upset” come November.

Last week, we got back poll results with very encouraging news -- once undecided voters hear our core campaign message, we pull ahead of our opponent Jay Obernolte to win 46%-45%.

John, every week, we get new encouragement that we can pull this off if we keep fighting. But we are on high alert right up until Election Day. With Trump attacking the USPS, we’re preparing for everything so voters can cast their ballots in our race.

Here’s what we’ve been doing out on the trail:

We held a responsible, socially distanced meet-and-greet in Yucaipa, joined by Rep. Pete Aguilar. It was so great to see and talk with community members in person, even from a distance.

At the Townsend Farmers’ Market in Apple Valley, I had a wonderful day meeting with local small business owners and learning about the challenges they’re overcoming, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis.

In the High Desert, I had the chance to meet with High Desert Second Chance, an organization doing wonderful work providing food and sustenance for those in need. Giving back to our community, and supporting those in need, is so important to me.

We held an incredibly inspiring Virtual Round Table with community faith leaders, who gathered to discuss the impact that COVID-19 is having on our community, and the need to support each other emotionally and spiritually during this time.

Wednesday phone banks: Every Wednesday, our volunteers convene via video conference and call undecided voters in our community about the importance of our race. This is a vital piece of our outreach plan, and we always welcome new faces. RSVP here >> [link removed]

Send a Postcard: These are a great way to reach out to neighbors in our district directly, which has proven to be an extremely effective persuasion and turnout tool. And using stamps has the added bonus of supporting the USPS!
