Hurricane Dorian is expected to hit Florida in the coming days and we all need to be prepared for the impact. I urge every Floridian to have a plan in place. Below is a checklist you can use to make sure you and your family are prepared. Sign up for emergency and weather alerts Download the FEMA mobile app for weather alerts and maps of open shelters, among other important resources here If you are in Miami-Dade County, sign up for emergency alerts here If you are in Monroe County, sign up for emergency alerts here Hurricane Preparedness Checklist - Build an emergency supply kit (water, non-perishable food, flashlights, first-aid kit, medications)
- Prepare your home (secure windows, put patio furniture inside)
- Make sure your car has a full tank of gas
- Carry all of your families personal documents
- Charge your phones (store phone chargers in your car)
- Withdraw cash to have on hand
- Build an emergency plan and family communication plan
- Identify your zone and be prepared for an evacuation
Pet Safety and Preparedness Checklist - Make sure your pet is wearing collars and tags
- Take your pet with you if you evacuate
- Bring enough food, water and supplies for your pet (toys, carrier, bowl)
- Bring your pets medical records with you
- Pet-Friendly Evacuation Centers (PFEC) available. Miami-Dade County announces locations as they are opened prior to the storm’s arrival
- PFCE will accept dogs, cats, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, common household birds and certain breeds of rabbits under 10 pounds.
