AJC Releases Arabic Video on Jewish Ties to Jerusalem AJC Arabic / 2-minute read AJC this week released an Arabic-language video about the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, part of the organization’s highly successful Arabic video series, ‘An al-Yahud (“About the Jews”). The animated short film presents the long history of Jerusalem and the city’s centrality to Judaism and the Jewish people, from biblical times to the present day. In addition to exploring the place of Jerusalem in Jewish tradition and religious practice, the video charts the continuous Jewish presence in the city for more than two millennia. A review of the city’s tumultuous status in the twentieth century concludes with an expression of hope that Jerusalem—which is sacred to Muslims, Christians, and Jews—will soon earn one of its biblical names, “the City of Peace.” The Arabic video series has reached tens of millions throughout the Arab world since launching just six months ago. Facebook Announces New Policy Combating Anti-Jewish Stereotypes The Forward / 3-minute read Facebook’s community standards now officially ban content that references “Jewish people running the world or controlling major institutions such as media networks, the economy or the government.” The newly unacceptable tropes join other stereotypes that the social media giant had already tagged as hate speech: posts that compare Jews to rats, or depict Black people with farm equipment, or Mexican people as worms. In a statement, AJC Chief Advocacy Officer Daniel Elbaum called Facebook’s new policy “a step in the right direction and reflective of our ongoing conversations with Facebook officials in the United States, Europe, and Israel.”

U.S., UN At Odds About Peacekeeping Forces in Lebanon Axios / 3-minute read Unless more pressure is put on Iran and its proxy in Lebanon, Hezbollah, the U.S. is threatening to veto a resolution coming before the United Nations Security Council later this month to maintain a long-term peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon. AJC, which has long viewed Hezbollah as a destabilizing and pernicious force in Lebanon, has called on the international community to ban the global terrorist group in its entirety and hailed Lithuania’s decision to do so this week.
