It’s been 81 days since Donald Trump started his stupid, reckless war in Iran.
Thousands of San Diego-based sailors and Marines have already deployed to the region, and thousands more have received 48-hour deployment notices.
These are our neighbors, our friends, people we see at grocery stores and on the sidewalk.
I’m keenly aware of the fact that when our president decides to take military action against another country, legally or illegally, it’s my constituents — the San Diego-based service members — who are sent into harm’s way.
They sacrifice their bodies, their mental health, their time with loved ones, and even their lives for us. While they’re willing to make those sacrifices, we in Congress need to be damn sure it’s worth it. And I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this war of choice in Iran is not worth that risk or sacrifice.
That’s why I introduced a War Powers Resolution in the House to end Donald Trump's war in Iran and bring my constituents home. And it’s why I’m voting YES on Ranking Member Meeks’ War Powers Resolution on the House floor later today.
Our service members deserve better than to be treated as expendable pawns in Trump’s political games — and so do the American people, who are being forced to pay over $1 billion per day for this military adventurism.
My resolution will get a vote on the floor in the coming weeks, and we will keep pushing War Powers Resolutions until they pass. So I’m coming to you for your help.
