Friend, I’m reaching out to ask you to donate $15 to Gina Ortiz Jones’ campaign for Congress, and I’d really appreciate three minutes of your time to explain why.

The race for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District is the most competitive in the country, and Gina’s far-right opponents are simply not an option.

In a couple of recent interviews, one of Gina’s opponents implied that because she’s a lesbian and supports LGBTQ equality, Gina is somehow unfit to represent Texas families in Congress. That’s homophobic and wrong. It’s truly scary to think about how Gina’s opponent would vote to roll back civil rights protections for so many Americans—while voting to repeal the ACA for all Americans.

Gina learned the value of hard work and service from her mother who immigrated from the Philippines as a domestic helper for a shot at the American Dream. Like Gina’s mom, my parents immigrated to the United States for a better life and opportunities for our family. We learned to give back to our country and our communities that invested so much in us.

That’s what inspired Gina—and me—to serve in the U.S. Air Force and pursue public office to protect and strengthen the American Dream. Serving as a U.S. Representative is a great privilege, and with it comes much responsibility. But Gina already knows what it means to put service before self and to fight to ensure everyone is treated equally under the law.

I need your help, because I need Gina as a partner in Congress to fight for working families.
