Diana Harshbarger Releases Statement on 100 Year Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage

Kingsport, TN - Today, Republican Nominee of Tennessee’s First Congressional District, Diana Harshbarger, released the statement below regarding the 100 Year Anniversary of the 19th Amendment:

“Today, we celebrate the 100 Year Anniversary of the 19th Amendment which guarantees and protects Women’s constitutional right to vote and participate in our democracy. I am especially proud to celebrate this day as the Republican Nominee for Tennessee’s First Congressional District. Tennessee played a unique role in the passage of the Amendment as the final state required for ratification. Harry T. Burn, a young State lawmaker from McMinn county was the deciding vote. He switched sides after receiving a letter from his mother encouraging him to do the right thing and he listened to his mama. 100 years later, we have thousands of women lawmakers at every level of our government, a number that grows every year.

I am also grateful for President Donald Trump’s leadership in recognizing today’s celebration by pardoning Susan B. Anthony, who was a pioneer of the Suffrage movement and was arrested in 1872 after voting illegally. I can think of no better way to honor her sacrifice and efforts.”
