Dear John,

We are excited to invite you to an important discussion, Holding Court: The Trump 2.0 DOJ on Trial, taking place TOMORROW, May 20, 2026, at 3 PM ET. This virtual event will be moderated in a Q&A format by AFJ President Rachel Rossi and will feature insights from guest panelist Liz Oyer, former U.S. Pardon Attorney.

This timely discussion will examine tensions between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the courts, the current administration’s willingness to defy court orders, and the impact of widespread DOJ departures.

The second Trump DOJ has made many headlines since his inauguration, such as the firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and numerous accusations of defying federal court orders. An estimated 6,000 people have left the DOJ over the last 16 months — resulting in a backlog of cases and a severe shortage of lawyers on staff. Some departed employees have cited shifting DOJ priorities as a reason for leaving.

These events have raised questions about whether or not President Trump is truly “weaponizing” the DOJ for his own benefit instead of staying with the agency’s core mission: to uphold the rule of law, to keep the United States safe, and to protect civil rights.
