I'm proud to make my first-ever U.S. Senate endorsement for Senator Ed Markey, who is up for re-election this year.

But Sen. Markey faces a difficult challenge this re-election from the political establishment attempting to stop the momentum that our progressive movement has ignited throughout the nation. His opponent's super PAC is beginning to flood the airwaves with negative attack ads in advance of the September 1 primary — and it will take all of us in this movement to fight back.

Losing Ed Markey from the Senate would be devastating. As one of the original cosponsors of the Green New Deal, we need him as an ally in the Senate to push forward on meaningful climate reform and environmental justice.

But he's more than just the Green New Deal, John. Sen. Markey is a critical leader of our movement. He's been a champion of working-class folks in Massachusetts and beyond throughout his entire career — and he's working to achieve a more progressive future through supporting a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and an overhaul of our justice system.
