Team,
Today marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex at the ballot box.
Our country was founded on the principle of equality, and while the 19th Amendment was a critical advancement, it's important to remember that it did not afford all women the right to vote. It took the Voting Rights Act of 1965 for women of color to be able to fully exercise their right to vote.
Our history as a nation is full of these hard-won victories, each getting us closer to a democracy where every voice is heard.
But as we all know, 100 years later voter suppression tactics still run rampant. The suppression, purging, and intimidation of voters continues to this day from coast to coast. Fortunately, leaders like Chris are tackling the issue head-on -- just last week Chris introduced the Protect the Youth Vote Act to protect young Americans from voter suppression. But they need our help.
The best way we know how to celebrate the 19th Amendment is to make sure we elect leaders who will stand up for the right to vote. Will you join Chris in committing to vote in this year's election?
The November election will be one of the most important elections of our lifetimes, and we can't afford to sit on the sidelines.
Thank you for committing to protect our democracy,
Team Pappas
