Tues. Aug. 18 at 9:30 am, please join the fight to stop a radical experiment that crushes hard-won Black and Latino homeownership and brings upheaval to every single-family street in California, including yours . Tuesday, tell the Assembly Appropriations Committee to stop SB 1120 from moving to a “floor vote” next week by 80 Assemblymembers.
GO HERE to see why you should testify against SB 1120 on Tuesday! And GO HERE for steps on how to call in, and to speak, Tues., Aug 18!
On Saturday, SoCal Black leaders hosted a 350-person teleconference at which SB 1120, by Toni Atkins and Scott Wiener, was slammed as “insulting,” “racist,” “outrageous!”
Go HERE to watch the teleconference, sponsored by South L.A. Alliance for Locally Planned Growth. SB 1120 got slammed hard by Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager, L.A. City Councilmember Herb Wesson, L.A. City Councilmember Paul Koretz, and former L.A. Councilmember Jan Perry.
John Gonzales, a respected South L.A. builder and leader, called SB 1120 a bill that “has no ‘give’ and only has ‘get.’” It hands broad new rights to developer/speculators to destroy affordable single-family homes to build dense luxury housing without yards or a garage — and without a hearing. Peddled as a COVID-19 bill, it’s clear it was written before COVID-19: It ignores our housing needs, entirely.
