AVFCA and Coalition Partners Advocate During
Environmental Health Advocacy Day at the Capital!

The 2nd Annual Children’s Environmental Health Advocacy Day at the California State Capitol was a tremendous success, and AVFCA is incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this important day possible.
Representing A Voice for Choice Advocacy at the Capitol were our Legislative Director, April, and Grassroots Outreach Director, Karen, who spent the day meeting with legislators, coalition partners, advocates, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to support legislation focused on creating healthier futures for California children and families.
We are especially proud that Karen had the honor of speaking at the Children’s Environmental Health Press Conference as both a mother and advocate on behalf of A Voice for Choice Advocacy. During her remarks, she highlighted the importance of accessible education and awareness surrounding environmental health issues, particularly within Latino and Spanish-speaking communities who may not always have easy access to this information.

A special thank you to Assemblymember Dawn Addis (District 30) and Assemblymember Nick Schultz (District 44), who served as the main speakers at the press conference and continue helping move important conversations surrounding children’s environmental health forward in California.
AVFCA was proud to participate in this important day as part of The California Alliance for Children’s Environmental Health (CACEH), a coalition of local, regional, and statewide organizations working together to identify environmental health concerns impacting children and build momentum behind policies that create a greener, cleaner, and healthier California for kids.
* We are honored to stand alongside incredible coalition partners including:
* Breast Cancer Prevention Partners
* California Nurses for Environmental Health & Justice
* CALPIRG
* Children Now
* Center for Environmental Health
* Environmental Working Group (EWG)
And many other organizations committed to protecting children’s health and environmental safety.
* Throughout the day, coalition partners advocated for legislation focused on:
* Heavy metal testing and transparency in infant formula and protein products
* Ingredient transparency in diapers and food products
* Eliminating toxic chemicals from food packaging and receipts
* Phasing out PFAS in pesticides
* Supporting healthier food systems
* School safety during extreme heat and climate challenges
* Reducing harmful disposable vape waste
For the past 10 years, AVFCA has intentionally focused on building and sustaining bipartisan relationships at the Capitol because we believe children’s environmental health should never be a one-aisle conversation. These issues impact every child, every family, and every community across California.
Meaningful progress happens through education, collaboration, relationship-building, and consistently showing up to advocate for healthier futures for all.
