Today marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment -- a major milestone for women across the nation.

Fun fact: Texas was actually the first southern state to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment on June 28, 1919.

Over a century ago, women couldn’t take part in politics, let alone set foot into a voting booth. We were told to sit pretty and shut up. But women didn’t give up and took charge. The suffragettes grabbed the bull by the horns and fought like hell until we got our right to vote.

Since then, we’ve seen Texas women go on to achieve greatness-- from Edith Wilmans as the first woman to serve the Texas Legislature, to Miriam Ferguson as the first female Texas governor, to Barbara Jordan as the first Black woman to serve the Texas Senate.

And the strong women on Team Fair & Square who are ready to flip the Texas House Blue in November. Women’s empowerment is stronger than ever -- and we couldn’t be prouder!
