It's not news to you that our country is in the midst of a reckoning. The COVID-19 pandemic has halted our economy, changed our society, and laid bare the deep racial injustices that harm communities of color. The racist killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor ? whose killers still walk free ? and so many others caused an uprising across the United States that is still reverberating in our cities and towns.

Throughout the summer, LCV has declared our support for Black Lives Matter and engaged in meaningful and personal work to make ourselves a more anti-racist organization. But you are our movement, friend, and we know we must do this work alongside you.

In 2016, the League of Conservation Voters began an organizational change process to make sure that our efforts to protect and advocate for the environment are rooted in a deep understanding of racial, economic, and environmental justice. We have not been a fully-fledged ally for racial justice and equity. We have not always spoken up or we have taken too long to do so. We must and will do better.
