On January 6th, 2021, while rioters were breaking windows and beating police officers in the United States Capitol, Scott DesJarlais watched. Then, hours later, with the smoke barely cleared and the blood still fresh, he voted to throw out the electoral votes of Arizona and Pennsylvania.
Not because the courts found fraud. They didn’t. Over 60 lawsuits were filed. Over 60 were dismissed or rejected. Every major court in the country, including judges appointed by Republicans, looked at the evidence and found nothing.
DesJarlais didn’t care. He voted to override you anyway. I’m running a race against this kind of corruption, and need your help today! [ [link removed] ]
And before that, he had already signed onto a Supreme Court brief trying to invalidate the votes of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Millions of American voters, real people who stood in line, filled out their ballots, and trusted the process… and Scott DesJarlais tried to erase them with a legal stunt the Supreme Court threw out immediately.
Think about what that means. This isn’t a difference of opinion on tax policy or healthcare. This is a sitting congressman looking his constituents in the eye and saying: the votes only count when my side wins.
That’s not conservatism. That’s not patriotism. That’s cowardice dressed up in a flag pin.
I come from a different place. I believe the ballot box is sacred and when Tennesseans vote, those votes deserve to be counted and respected. Full stop, no legal maneuvers. No signing onto briefs because your party’s leader demanded it.
DesJarlais has been in Washington for 14 years. In that time he’s learned one thing really well: how to protect himself. He’s learned how to sign the right briefs and keep the right people happy, even when it means telling the voters of this district that their voice only matters when it’s convenient.
I’m running because Tennessee deserves better than a representative who treats democracy like a suggestion.
Your vote is not a bargaining chip. And I will never treat it like one.
