Hi John, it’s Estela. I wanted to reach out personally because we still have $480 to raise before the week ends in just a few hours.

I was recently reflecting on how much has changed since we started this work 20 years ago.

Before Emerge New Mexico began, there were only 21 women in our state legislature. Just 21. For decades, the voices of women, and particularly women of color, were sidelined in the rooms where our state's most important decisions were made.

But we changed the game. As reported by the Santa Fe New Mexican, our state legislature now boasts the second-largest female majority in the United States, with 60 women in our state legislature. That happened because we believed in the women who once hesitated to run. We believed, and we invested.

I am looking at our 17 current trainees in the Class of 2026, and I see the same fire in them that we saw in our very first class. They are ready. They are capable. But they need the resources that this fundraising goal provides.
