When we started TCEA Tuesdays in July, we were up against a massive lobby in favor of sheltered workshops and subminimum wage for people with disabilities. We needed all hands on deck, and the community showed up. Since then, your calls, emails, and letters have made important progress towards ending subminimum wage. You’ve kept momentum going for the Transformation to Competitive Employment Act, and it’s starting to pay off: since we started our campaign, three new cosponsors have signed on to champion the bill.
The TCEA campaign was also the first test of our proxy calling system -- and thanks to you, we’re happy to report it was a huge success! With the help of our team of volunteers, we’ve made 46 proxy calls on behalf of disabled people who can’t use the phone, making sure all of our voices are heard on Capitol Hill.
Legislation can move slowly, but we’ll continue to keep you updated about progress on TCEA. From all of us at ASAN, thank you to everyone everyone who called, emailed, used our proxy calling system, volunteered to place calls, and spread the word on social media. With each action, you’ve brought us closer to ending subminimum wage. Once again, we’re showing Congress that when it comes to our rights, there will be Nothing About Us Without Us!
