How to Solve the World’s Housing Crisis ( [link removed] )
**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
About 300 million people are experiencing homelessness worldwide. Nearly 3 billion lack housing that is safe and connected to basic services like sanitation and piped water. And about 40% of the world’s population lives far from jobs and opportunities. Meeting the global housing need will require building 96,000 affordable homes every day until 2030.
But quantity alone won’t solve it. There’s a right and wrong way to build. Done well, new housing can reduce inequality, expand access to opportunities and strengthen climate resilience. Done poorly, it will only deepen problems. WRI experts explain what’s needed to solve the world’s growing housing crisis.

Urban Trees: An Underused Tool for Keeping People Cool ( [link removed] )
**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Trees can make city streets feel up to 14 degrees C (25 degrees F) cooler. Yet most cities are leaving large areas of plantable land underused. We explore where cities could most easily expand their tree cover.

A Sustainable Ocean Economy Could Create Millions of New ‘Blue Jobs’ ( [link removed] )
*********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
The ocean supports at least 133 million formal jobs, from fishing and tourism to shipping and offshore energy. New research shows that number could swing depending on one key variable: how fast the world transitions to a sustainable ocean economy. Act quickly, and the sector gains 51 million new jobs by 2050; stall, and it loses 40 million.

Electric School Buses Deliver More than Just a Clean Ride ( [link removed] )
***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Most school buses in the United States run on diesel; its exhaust is linked to asthma, cancer and respiratory issues. Replacing traditional buses with electric ones can clean up the air for millions of children, but the benefits don’t stop there: Electric school buses can also save school districts money, bring new jobs and cut electricity bills.

Tree cover potential in a selection of global cities graphic ( [link removed] )
Cities have significant room to increase their tree cover. For example, tree cover in Charlotte and Columbia in the United States could reach nearly 47% and 45%, respectively, by planting trees alongside streets and other underutilized spaces. More trees can cool rapidly heating cities.
