I spent 26 years in uniform. I was a JAG, and I taught the Law of Armed Conflict to future officers at the Air Force Academy.

When it comes to deploying American service members and putting them in harm's way, I believe in a very simple, constitutional standard: The United States Senate must provide oversight, and they must prioritize the lives of our troops and the security of our citizens above all else.

Yesterday, Mike Rounds proved he does not share that standard by voting AGAINST ending a war that has cost us billions of dollars and several American lives. He refused to end a war launched by the president alone, without Congressional approval.

As a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, his vote is an absolute embarrassment to himself and to South Dakotans. And it’s a slap to the face of every one of us.

The instability caused by this reckless war is driving up fuel prices, disrupting agricultural markets, and making the cost of living unbearable. You are paying the price for his cowardice every time you fill up your gas tank or buy groceries.

We are paying for a war we didn’t authorize, led by politicians who refuse to be accountable.

I am running as an Independent because South Dakota deserves a Senator who actually knows the law and has the backbone to call balls and strikes. I will never vote to prolong an unconstitutional conflict, and I will never sacrifice the economic stability of our state to satisfy the tough guy egos in Washington.
