We're sure you're aware that, in recent days, the Voting Rights Act was gutted.
You then saw red states across the country rushing to redraw their maps to eliminate districts that allow proper representation in Congress.
Now, Republican lawmakers here in Arizona want to do the same: redraw our maps to ultimately help Trump and MAGA rig the 2026 midterm elections in their favor.
There are a couple of reasons why this will not happen here in Arizona. First, Arizona said 'no' to redistricting manipulation and has had an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) since 2000.
Second, we have Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs, who would veto any legislation that MAGA Republicans try to push through to eliminate the IRC.
But this is not just one example. For decades, Democratic states have adopted IRCs while Republican states have heavily gerrymandered their districts. Even in 2022, Democrats pushed legislation to eliminate gerrymandering that did not receive a single Republican vote and was ultimately defeated in the Senate by Republicans.
The answer is clear: Democrats want voters to choose their politicians, while Republicans want to choose their voters.
This is why we have to elect every single Democrat on the ballot this November, from federal to local offices, especially Governor Hobbs, who is protecting our state from Republican shenanigans.
