John,

This is going to be a big week! For the first time ever, the nominating conventions for the presidency will be virtual. While it may look different this time around, the conventions are a time for all of us to closely examine the platforms of both parties to make one of the most consequential decisions of our lifetime.

Tonight, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) begins. This week is the first time we will see both Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate Senator Kamala Harris speak directly to the nation. To share their vision for the future, and how to heal our country after four years of attacks on its foundational values.

We’ll be watching and sharing what we hear from Democratic party leaders, so make sure to check out our Twitter feed as the program gets underway.

This is also an opportunity for other Democrats from around the country to share their stories, their plans, and what the American public needs from its leaders. We are so excited to hear from so many wonderful leaders, especially those from our own LGBTQ community like Rep. Danica Roem, the first openly transgender person elected Virginia's state legislature, Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, the first openly gay Black person elected to the Pennsylvania state legislature, Senator Tammy Baldwin, the first openly lesbian person to be elected to the U.S. Congress, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the first viable openly LGBTQ person to run for president.

We look forward to hearing the speakers at this week’s DNC address their plans for transgender people. We will be watching closely, and I promise you we will push the party to develop and expand on them for the future. Follow along on our Twitter feed to stay updated on all the developments this week!

Sincerely,
