Law Enforcement Roundtables

Last week, I traveled to Elkhart and Evansville to hold roundtables with law enforcement personnel from northern and southwest Indiana. There, we had the opportunity to discuss criminal justice reform and federal funding for training and education programs to help keep Hoosiers safe and support police officers. I remain committed to working toward a bipartisan solution to increase transparency within our nation’s law enforcement and ensure all Hoosier communities are being protected.

Update on the Next Round of Coronavirus Relief

Another week has gone by without a deal for coronavirus relief. Democrats continue to insist on a large spending bill that is full of wishlist items that have nothing to do with the pandemic.

I will continue to fight for our local small businesses and urge my colleagues to include my RESTART Act in the next round of coronavirus relief to ensure that many of our small businesses can stay afloat during this time of uncertainty. Right now, studies have shown that that more than 80,000 American small businesses permanently closed from March 1 to July 25, including about 60,000 local businesses, or firms with fewer than five locations. With more than 100 cosponsors in the House and 54 in the Senate, my bipartisan RESTART Act has the support from Congress it needs to provide real relief to communities across America. Learn more here.

I spoke with WOWO and WIBC on the need for Democrats to come back to the negotiating table with a more realistic, targeted and fact-based offer so that Congress can pass much needed relief for the American people.

Visit to the Barns at Napanee

Marlin and Christy Stutzman have done an amazing job as new owners of The Barns at Nappanee, Home of Amish Acres. The pandemic prevented many small businesses like theirs from opening for extended periods of time. My RESTART Act will give these Hoosier institutions a lifeline to ensure they aren’t permanently closed. Democrats need to come to the table so Hoosier institutions like this can survive this pandemic. Learn more about my visit here, WANE or WNDU

Expanding Recreational Development near Brookville Lake

Last week, Congressmen Greg Pence and I wrote a letter to support expanding recreational development near Union County’s Brookville Lake. Receiving more than a million visitors per year the current volume of tourists strain the current infrastructure surrounding the lake. Reinvesting in this popular destination will not only create more jobs, it will also revitalize Indiana’s third largest state park.
