Last week, Ro made a major decision regarding the future of our party. He voted “no” on the 2020 Democratic National Platform.
This was not a decision Ro took lightly. This year’s platform made some important improvements, largely due to the pressure of progressives and activists across the country. Their work is worthy of high praise.
But as we speak, over 5.4 million of our fellow Americans have lost their health coverage in the middle of a global pandemic. Any platform that did not include Medicare for All – a guarantee that no American would die because of their inability to afford care – is out of step with this moment in history.
This is the type of leadership that Ro embodies – because our movement is not just about being better than the alternative. Health care is a human right for every human being, and is arguably one of the greatest moral crises of our time.
We cannot sit on the sidelines as our neighbors ration their insulin, as our parents and grandparents cannot afford life-saving medications, as parents make the heartbreaking choice to skip check-ups for their kids, and as our government places profits from Big Pharma and the insurance industry above people.
Thanks for all that you do,
Team Ro
