USPS claims the Postmaster General’s business calendars are not considered “agency records.” We’re appealing.

American Oversight Is Committed to Holding USPS Accountable

On Friday, American Oversight received “a hall of fame ([link removed]) FOIA denial” from the U.S. Postal Service. At a time when all eyes are focused on the role of the USPS in the upcoming election, we’ve uncovered a serious gap in accountability for the public agency through our FOIA request ([link removed]) .

We asked the Postal Service to release the calendars of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a former Trump donor, so the public could see how he's been spending his time and who he's been meeting with. DeJoy reportedly has met regularly with Republican Party officials, including in the Oval Office, raising serious concerns the former GOP mega donor is using his office for partisan ends.

The USPS reply ([link removed]) to our FOIA included an unexpected justification for withholding records. USPS asserted that DeJoy’s calendar and calendar entries, maintained on a postal computer and used by postal employees, were “not intended to be an official record” and are not “agency records” subject to American Oversight’s FOIA request.
