When the Supreme Court struck down the legislation that ended segregationist voter suppression, the Voting Rights Act, many were quick to say that this was the end of Democratic power in the Deep South. 

These doubting Thomases grew louder when the MAGA Governor of Louisiana declared a ‘state of emergency’ and canceled our House elections, a move which, combined with a massive disinformation effort, convinced many Louisianans that all May 16th elections were canceled. 

But then the unthinkable happened. Democrats took the lead. 

Driving this turn of fortune are the Louisiana Dems' emergency communications (texts, mailers, etc.), sent to alert voters that multiple elections are still happening.

We are one of the most underfunded parties in the nation so the way we’ve funded this lightning breakthrough is extremely unorthodox.

On the day the Supreme Court decision dropped, we had very little money in the bank. However, on that day, and in the days that followed, we began operating under an assumption of faith that Democrats from across the nation would come in to back us up. 

The faith that we started this with is now reaping dividends. Backed by hundreds of thousands of small-dollar donors, we’ve been able to launch an unprecedented counterattack that now has us leading in this life-or-death election.

We cannot relent. Until election day, we have to continue spending money that we don’t have under the assumption that we will raise it back tomorrow.
