** About the Research Compendium
------------------------------------------------------------

The precursor documents are a collection of Arlington-specific data and existing conditions will serve as a resource for the upcoming Missing Middle Housing Study. The study is anticipated to begin in Fall 2020.

The compendium introduces housing types and terms, provides an overview of Arlington’s current housing inventory, presents background information on housing affordability, reviews the history of land use and zoning policies, and illuminates how the combination of these elements have shaped the way Arlington exists today.

Each research bulletin can be viewed as a standalone document, or as a chapter in a larger body of knowledge. Bulletins will be published from June through August 2020. The goal is to provide the community with information to explore prior to the Missing Middle Housing Study kick-off.
* Bulletin 1: Missing Middle Housing Study: A Stakeholder Guide ([link removed]) -- provides an overview of Housing Arlington, the Missing Middle Housing Study, the structure of the Research Compendium, and highlights from the other bulletins.
* Bulletin 2: ([link removed]) Housing Market Pressures ([link removed]) -- examines Arlington’s housing market, its gaps, and the costs associated with housing.
* Bulletin 3: Arlington's Existing Housing Choices ([link removed]) -- provides an overview of Arlington’s housing stock, with a focus on “existing” middle housing.
* Bulletin 4: ([link removed]) Arlington's Land Use Policy & Zoning ([link removed]) -- reveals the 90-year evolution of Arlington’s zoning and land use policies and their influence on neighborhoods.
* Supplemental Resource: A History of Residential Development, Planning, and Zoning in Arlington County, Virginia ([link removed]) : Created by graduate students in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program at Virginia Tech as part of a capstone studio course in 2019-2020, this report provides a detailed overview of the history of residential development in Arlington.
* Bulletin 5: Missing Middle Housing Study in Context will be published on August 18.
