John --
We’re headed for a historic election in November -- one that will be complicated by the fact that millions will be casting votes by mail during the pandemic. We know what the solution is: Accessible mail-in voting for all Americans is needed now more than ever.
But instead of making voting by mail easier, Trump appointed Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General. DeJoy has no background at the Postal Service. Instead, his only qualification seems to be a whopping $1.2 million in campaign contributions to Trump since 2016.
Here’s a list of what DeJoy has done in his short tenure at the USPS:
→ Slashed hours for clerks and froze new hiring
→ Reduced post office hours, including some Saturday closings
→ Decommissioned some mail sorting machines
→ Is actively removing mail drop boxes across the country
These aren’t the type of changes you would expect to see during a pandemic with record levels of mail voting. But it is what you’d see if Trump and DeJoy wanted to sabotage the election.
I’m headed back to DC for a vote to stop this madness, but I need to know you’re with me: Would you add your name to show Trump and DeJoy you stand with us and oppose any cuts to the Postal Service? >> [link removed]
Democrats in Congress have called on Postmaster General DeJoy to answer questions about his highly questions policies. If he objects to answering our questions or refuses to roll back his attacks on mail-in voting access, I’ll demand his immediate resignation.
Please add your name to the list of supporters who will defend the US Postal Service -- this election is too important and our democracy is at stake >> [link removed]
I’ll keep you in the loop with updates when I’m back in DC.
Thanks,
Mike
