I'm emailing you more motivated than ever before.

Republicans passed their racist, outrageous gerrymandered districts in Tennessee that eliminate District 9 as the only majority-Black and majority-Democratic district in our state.

They have cheated their way into a map that favors Republicans, where politicians are picking their voters instead of voters picking their leaders.

We need to call this what it is: this new map is a political lynching — an affront to justice and the fight for equality.

My heart aches for my hometown of Memphis, where I was born and raised and where generations of my family are buried.

But I refuse to give in to despair. Don't give up hope. The fight still carries on, renewed with urgency as we work to restore the rights that our ancestors marched, prayed, bled, and died for.

This righteous fight for our rights has never been more important, to push back against Jim Crow 2.0, to end the corruption that runs rampant and free, to give Black and Brown People a true voice in their democracy. The Supreme Court's ruling in Louisiana v. Callais cleared the path for this, and I'm sure we're going to see the same playbook in other states soon, robbing Black and Brown People of their voting rights.

Republicans have taken the only Black-majority district from us. But I want you to know: No matter what they do, no matter how much they try to break us and make us bend and quit — we will still be here.

I'm still going to fight to demonstrate strong leadership in TN, and I hope that you, as a member of this People-powered movement, are still by my side.
