I want you to be the first to know this exciting announcement. Today, we announce endorsements from Delegate Charlie Schmidt, Delegate Sam Rasoul, Chesterfield Commissioner of Revenue Jenefer Hughes, and former VA CD-1 nominees Qasim Rashid and Herb Jones.
These are people who have been fighting for working families for years. They looked at this campaign and said: that’s our person.
Here’s what they had to say
Delegate Charlie Schmidt (VA HD-77): I’m proud to endorse Salaam Bhatti for Congress. His career in public interest law has been devoted to fighting for working families, and I know he’ll bring that same focus to delivering for Virginians.
Delegate Sam Rasoul (VA HD-38): I've worked alongside Salaam, and I've seen firsthand what he's made of. As a public interest lawyer, he has fought and won for tens of thousands of working families right here in Virginia. Salaam hasn't taken a dime from corporate or foreign interests because he is a champion for the people. That's the truth, grit, and love we need in Congress.
Jenefer Hughes, Chesterfield County Commissioner of Revenue: I see every day who pays their fair share and who doesn't. I watch corporations come into our county, collect tax breaks, and walk away while working families pick up the tab. That's not right, and I need a Congressmember with the backbone to say so. Salaam Bhatti is that person. He hasn't taken a dime from corporate PACs, and his whole career has been spent fighting for people, not special interests. Salaam is ready for this moment. Herb Jones, a 30-year military veteran and 2022 Democratic nominee for CD-1, said: I spent 30 years serving this country in uniform, and I’ve served my community as a county treasurer, community activist, and small business owner. I know what it means to be accountable to people, not to a check. Salaam Bhatti is cut from the same cloth. He’s fought for working families his entire career, and isn’t beholden to a corporation because he isn’t for hire. Virginians deserve a congressman who answers to constituents, not donors. Qasim Rashid, the 2020 Democratic nominee for CD-1 and human rights lawyer: We are facing an existential threat to our Republic. Salaam has the experience, the empathy, and the execution to win this District, and flip it Blue. We need fighters like Salaam at the forefront to protect our basic economic and civil rights.
