Dear Friend,
What do wine lovers and stressed students have in common? They're both excited to try vegan food.
Across the country, Animal Outlook chapter leaders are sparking conversations with a simple premise: what if vegan food is just food? When that realization clicks, everything changes.
Get inspired — and replicate these events in your community with our help:
Last month, regional chapter leader Zachary Krauss and volunteer Jeremy challenged UCLA students to identify champion vegan athletes for free plant protein snacks ([link removed]) from Gym Snack — and cranked out a combined 90 push-ups to raise money for an Effective Altruism fundraiser nearby. Seventy students tried samples, rating them 8-10/10, and multiple students asked to "keep the whole bag."
In February, regional chapter leader Kristine McDermand organized a vegan cheese ([link removed]) and wine pairing at Six Sigma Winery, featuring cheeses from Rebel Cheese. Kristine told one guest the Tomato Herb Fromage "tastes like pizza rolls." He was won over after one bite, saying: "That might convert me!" Guests repeatedly requested the vegan 'pizza' cheese over the non-vegan aged cheddar.
Our teams spread Valentine's Day love across DC, CT, NV, and CA with vegan cupcake ([link removed]) giveaways. People were genuinely surprised they were vegan. When someone asked how cupcakes could be made without eggs or dairy, we shared simple swaps like mashed banana or applesauce. One woman said, "Seeing Animal Outlook here inspired me to try eating vegan again." When we led with compassion and really good food, minds changed.
While students crammed for Finals Week, we showed up with vegan cookies ([link removed]) and our investigation about the egg industry. Between bites, students pledged to explore vegan eating and share what they had learned. One student said, "This actually tastes better than other cookies." This is how change happens. Not through lectures but through genuine connection — one conversation, one bite at a time.
